Starting the Butler Computer

Date of Tech Note: 19 July 1999
Enhancement: 19 July 1999
Bug Fix: N/A

Description

The Bulter computer is used to perform tasks for other computers on the network. Currently the only task it can perform for others is to fax letters. Other tasks are planned, and will be built if they are requested. Other wise they will not be built in until version 3.5.

Obviously the Butler needs to be running MediFile. Since this computer is only performing ‘Butler’ actions it should not permit a person to use it for other items. This is a security feature, as the Butler computer is usually off in another area of the clinic that not many people will be around. Therefore we have designed the Butler sign on to be simple, and to only permit it to perform Butler activities - is Start Butler.

Details

The first step in setting up the Butler is to set up a user called Butler in the user file. This user should not have access to anything in MediFile. Actually you are not permitting a human user to perform any action with the computer signed on as the ‘Butler’.

Setting up the User File

Essentially you are going to create a user called ‘Butler’ without any capabilities. In fact the ability to sign onto the system as the user ‘Butler’ will not be possible. Essentially we are creating a user profile that MediFile will load up without giving the user any capabilities from a user interface perspective.

In other words, only the Butler program in MediFile can work with MediFile. A user cannot come up to the Butler computer and work with MediFile.

Setting the Computer Preferences for the Butler

From the File menu select ‘Computer Preferences’.

From the page popup select ‘Delayed Processes’.

On this page you need to indicate that this computer will be a Butler. Do this by doing the following:

• Turn on the light switch to Process Remote Tasks.
• Indicate the number of seconds the Butler will ‘sleep’ between looking for new tasks. We recommend 10 seconds for the faxing.

• Give the Butler a name. When setting up a new site we give the butler the name of ‘Tom’. This is important as you can have more than one Butler on your network. Therefore the butler you are setting up will only process files that have been specifically sent for it to do.

Click on the Ž to save these preferences for the Fax Butler computer.

You have now set up the Butler in MediFile.

Restart MediFile

Quit MediFile, and then restart it. Sign on at the first password screen as the following:

Name: Butler
Password: Butler

MediFile will now sign on directly into MediFile without the need for the second password. As well the fax butler will automatically start.

Other things to Do

You will need to have setup the 4-site fax server and client on this computer if this is a Fax Butler. Refer to the 4-Site Fax Manuals to accomplish this.

The only special item of note for setting up the fax server is the users. Each 4-site Fax Server comes with 2 users. You MUST have one set up with the name of your clinic, without a password. We recommend that the other user be ‘Admin’ with your admin password you use in MediFile.
