Adding to Default Script While Writing an Rx

Version: 3.0
Date of Tech Note: 6/5/01
Enhancement: 6/5/01
Bug Fix: N/A

Description

Setting up your Default Scripts is done most effectively from the Drug Reference file directly. Of course this takes forethought to enter these ahead of time. Unfortunately you cannot think of all the great Default Scripts ahead of time. For this reason MediFile permits you to quickly add to your Default Scripts while writing a prescription to a patient.

Steps to Adding to Your Default Scripts

1. While writing a new Rx, enter the name of the drug you would like to add. Press the tab key. MediFile will search for that drug name. Since you don’t have that one in the system, MediFile will bring up the select drug dialog.

Note the blue ‘?’ above the drug name field. This is your clue that when you tab out MediFile is going to access records in the system to fill in a full name. For the purpore of this example we will be using the drug name of Jonoketan.

Select / Create Default Script Record

With this Select Drug Dialog you can select a previously built Default script or create a new one. Of course you always have the option of exiting out and not using a default script. This technote descirbes creating a new Default Script.

If you want to search again, because you believe the Default script should be there you can enter a generic name, brand name and click on the search button.

Creating a New Default Script

1. Click on the New button. This will cause the fields on the lower right to become white, indicating they accept entry. By default the script is create as being only for you. This is indicated by the ‘Only Mine’ checkbox marked. Only change this if you intend to create this for every user of your system.

2. Click on the Create button to create the Default Script Record.

3. The Default Script Record will be created, placed in the top of the scrollable list, and be ready to select, or modify.

4. Click on the Select Button. The Default Script instructions will be taken back into the prescription you are writting. As well the next time you want to prescribe this drug, you can now access this default script by typing in only a few characters of the drug name. In this case entering ‘Jon’ will bring up Jonoketan default scrip

Note:

If you would like to add other strengths to your Default Script you need to do this from the Reference File. See the Technote on this if you would like to do this.
