Description:

LeechFTP is a very compact, simple FTP client program for the Windows platform, which allows you to send and receive files via File Transfer Protocol. Installation of this program requires that you download the installer (available from download.cnet.com), and have your computer configured to allow working with .zip files.

1. Right-click the LeechFTP .zip file. From the contextual menu, point to the WinZip item, and from its submenu, select Extract to here.

Note for WinZip users: If you have an evaluation (unregistered) version of WinZip, you will be prompted to accept the WinZip usage terms (window shown here). To stop this window from appearing, you can purchase a license from www.winzip.com. To continue the evaluation period, click I Agree.

2. The LeechFTP files should now be visible in the same location as the .zip file you began with. Double-click the Setup icon.

3. The installation program begins, describing recent changes to the program. Click Next to continue.

4. Select the installation location on the next screen. The default is usually acceptable. Click Next to proceed with the installation.

5. Files are copied to the install location, and a progress bar shows you when the installation has completed. Click Finished when it is done.

LeechFTP runs automatically at this point, and you are shown the default interface. The button bar along the top contains most of the functions you will need. The large, horizontal text area will display server communication text. The lower-left panel displays Queue, Threads, Downloads or Failures information; the lower-centre panel displays files on your computer, showing the current path at the bottom; the lower-right panel will be used to display files on the server (aka. “remote volume”).

6. Now you should modify the LeechFTP options. Select Options from the File menu to display this window:

7. Go through each tab of the Options window and ensure certain settings are as follows:

Appearance tab: Update Checker option deselected
Files tab: Delete to Recycle Bin selected; Log FTP commands and responses selected
Transfers tab: defaults are ok
Sounds tab: defaults are ok
Firewall tab: PASV Mode selected (this may be different if your system administrator recommends otherwise)
Connections tab: defaults are ok
HTTP tab: defaults are ok
File Types tab: defaults are ok

Click Accept to save the Options.
You are now ready to use LeechFTP. For MediFile© billings, please consult the Tech Note titled “Using LeechFTP 1.3.”
