Description

CuteFTP is an FTP client; it is a software application that enables the user to transfer files using File Transfer Protocol (FTP), by connecting his or her computer to another via the Internet. This document details the configuration of CuteFTP 2.5 on the PC in order to perform FTP transfers with the Jonoke server, specifically. It is assumed that the program itself has already been correctly installed. For installation help, please contact Jonoke.

Detail

Open Cute FTP. This is usually accomplished by selecting it from the Start Menu. The program typically starts up with its Site Manager visible (shown below). If this is not visible, select Site Manager from the File menu to open it.

In CuteFTP, a "site" is a preset connection definition for a particular server using a particular username, password and so forth. These are grouped in the folders visible in the left half of the window. If it is not already highlighted, click Personal FTP Sites. This is the folder in which the Jonoke site definition will be saved.

Click the Add site button to begin creating a new site definition. The Add Host window will open:

In this window, you will define the various settings for connecting to the Jonoke FTP server. Enter the following settings in their respective fields:

  • Site Label: Jonoke
  • Host Address: ftp.jonoke.com
  • User ID: (your username, as supplied by Jonoke)
  • Password: (your password, as supplied by Jonoke)
  • Login type: Select Normal
  • Transfer type: Select Auto-Detect
  • Host-Type: Choose Auto-Detect
  • Initial Remote Directory: leave blank
  • Remote Directory Filter: leave blank
  • Initial Local Directory: see below
  • Local Directory Filter: leave blank

Initial Local Directory

This field is used once CuteFTP connects to Jonoke, to display a specific folder on your hard drive. For this site definition, you will locate the MediFile folder on your hard drive. This is typically located in a folder called Jonoke, at the root level of the drive; for example, the path might be C:\Jonoke\MediFile\

You can locate the folder by browsing your drive. Click the Ellipsis (. . .) button to open the Browse for Folder window:

Your drive might look slightly different than what is shown above. To expand a folder/drive, click the + sign located next to the name. Use this method to expand the folders needed to reveal the MediFile folder, as above. Highlight MediFile by clicking on it, and then click OK. The proper path to the folder will appear in the Initial Local Directory field.

Click OK to save the site definition. The Jonoke site will be added to your Personal FTP Sites folder for future use. When you will be using FTP, simply open CuteFTP, click on the Jonoke site definition in the Site Manager and click Connect.
