Hardware Specifications

Your JonokeMed™ system can use either Macintosh or Windows computers as workstations – even a combination of the two. However, Jonoke only warranties MediFile© to run on a Dell Windows server. Meanwhile, the Butler add-on components must be run on a Macintosh computer.

The optimal setup, based on Jonoke’s experience, is a Dell Windows JonokeMed™ server, an Apple Mac G5 Butler server, and Apple iMac workstations.

The specifications which follow are the current, established requirements for hardware. Shown are both the minimum and recommended specifications, the latter giving your system superior performance and ease-of-use with a greater viable lifespan. The size of your clinic will also dictate which server is recommended for optimal use.

It is critical that your clinic meets the requirements for proper data security. Logging/mirroring to another computer is a process that ensures you are protected from loss. View the logging/mirroring section for more information.

Printers

You will be using JonokeMed™ in a networked configuration. You should use the network for the printer. Ensure that the printer you purchase is network-compatible. A laser/Postscript™ printer is best for letters, prescriptions, daysheets, and patient charts. If you want to have labels printed for lab results and other paperwork, a dot matrix or thermal printer from Zebra should be purchased; we highly recommend Zebra printers because they are durable, small in size, quiet, fast, and print with greater legibility. The label printers are shared on the network for all workstations.

Modems

Any of the modems that you purchase today will work well with JonokeMed™; these are generally used for billing submission. We recommend a 56kbps external modem. There are the fewest compatibility issues and more options in using an external modem.
