Health
websites launched to expand health information to Albertans
February 27, 2004
- article originally published on Government
of Alberta website -
Calgary...Two new websites have been launched to help Albertans access reliable
health information and locate health services in their own health regions.
The two new websites are:
* HealthLink Alberta (www.healthlinkalberta.ca)
- that includes an online library of health topics developed by Alberta clinical
experts called Your Health.* InformAlberta (www.informalberta.ca)
- a database of health and community services to help Albertans find health
services in their own health regions and communities.
"Albertans have told us they want better access to
health information and services," said Gary Mar, Minister
of Health and Wellness. "These web products are designed
to give Albertans immediate access to reliable and current
health information and help them find health services in
their own community and health region."
The health websites are complementary to HealthLink Alberta, a 24-hour, province-wide
telephone line that provides health information and helps Albertans determine
the appropriate level of health service they may need. Both InformAlberta and
HealthLink Alberta can be accessed through all nine regional health authority
websites, as well as the Alberta Health and Wellness and Service Alberta websites.
" These web products are the first of their kind in Canada," said Dr.
Roger Galbraith, medical director for HealthLink Alberta. "These online
services support the high quality, trusted health information Albertans receive
from HealthLink nurses, health care providers and health service agencies everyday
in the province."
The two websites have been developed at a cost of $350,000, as part of Health
Canada funding provided in 2002 to expand primary health care services in Alberta.
InformAlberta was created from InformCalgary, a pilot information website funded
by Health Canada and Industry Canada and cost-shared with the Calgary Health
Region and the City of Calgary.
